Sophia Edie
Sophia is currently interning as part of the Midlands Fashion Designer Awards events team; she kindly chatted to the Bonafide Supernova team about her role in one of the Midlands biggest fashion events.

o What is your role within the Midlands Fashion Awards team?
Marketing Assistant/Event Co-Ordinator
o What have you mainly been working on?
As Marketing Assistant/Event Co-Ordinator, I have been involved in all marketing campaigns and with the planning and production of both the Pre Show networking soiree and the main Fashion Show taking place in October 2012. However this role is not fixed and I have also lent my skills to help source raffle prizes and sponsorship for Midlands Fashion Designer Awards.
o Why do you think it’s important for fashion events like Midlands Fashion Designer Awards to take place in Birmingham?
I may be a bit biased here but I love this city and I feel that fashion graduates need a platform that allows them to showcase their hard work and achievements; without having to go to London. Birmingham is a creative city and it needs events like Midlands Fashion Awards to help highlight this.
o Are you a supporter of independent/emerging fashion designers?
Yes
o Midlands Fashion Awards are having their first fashion networking pre-show soiree on the 23rd August in association with Retail Birmingham……..why do you think it’s essential for those in the fashion industry to network?
Like with many creative industries, just getting a degree is just not enough; so it is vital that they are able to network with likeminded people: that are able to help them progress or point them in the right direction.
o What’s your view on Birmingham fashion?
Birmingham fashion is a melting pot of different styles which reflects the different cultures in the city. I feel that Birmingham fashion is unique and it doesn’t come across as though people are ‘trying too hard’, it comes across as being ‘just well put together’.
3 keys words to describe the ‘Birmingham’ fashion scene-
“whatever you want”

o If you could have any celebrities wardrobe, who’s would it be?
I would need a few! Victoria Beckham, Kelly Rowland, Solange Knowles and Jennifer Hudsons…pretty Please?!
o What’s your most desired item you’d love to purchase?
A classic Chanel quilted bag.
o Fashion vs. Music festivals?
They don’t compete with each other, they have become another mash up…maybe the next big thing will be a festival that has not only music but has a fashion element to it too.
This years Midlands Fashion Awards main fashion show will take place on Friday 19th October at The Botanical Gardens, Birmingham. For more details on this event and how to purchase tickets, visit their website: http://www.myfashiondesigners.co.uk/
