There’s nothing about spring we don’t love (well, except for the occasional allergies but we’ll live); everyone’s finally waking up from the horrible winter melancholy, the sun is injecting us all with new hope and we finally get to store our winter jackets and coats in the back of our closets (yay!). Still, even though the winter’s officially gone, its traces still remain on our skin and hair. With the change of weather and climate, there comes a change in beauty regimens and we do hope you’ll start with yours immediately.
Here, a breakdown of spring beauty hacks that’ll save your gorgeous skin and hair from damage.
Give in into a healthy hair look
No matter how dedicatedly you’re treating your hair during winter, it’ll get damaged. Spring is the perfect time to get rid of the split ends, get a new do, experiment with color and give your hair a new shine. If you’re not that much into changes, it’ll be enough to just keep your hair healthy and bring it its initial shine back. Whip up a homemade mask and witness your hair blossom. Mix mayonnaise with a ripe avocado and leave it in for 20-30 minutes… the shine is incredible! Also, as you already know, we went organic a while ago – not just in the kitchen but in our makeup and beauty kits, too. This spring, treat yourself to organic dry shampoo for when you can’t bother to wash hair (but are in a rush) and enjoy its phenomenal effect.
Use Coconut Oil
If you’re experiencing flaky skin on both your face (usually around the edges of the nose, in the eyebrows and around the mouth) and scalp, you’re not the only one. People with sensitive skin tend to get flakes with weather transitions, especially fall-to-winter and winter-to-spring. The best remedy is to use coconut oil for scalp and face treatments.
Before washing your hair, rub coconut oil into your scalp thoroughly and leave it to sit for a couple of hours. Some (like myself) like to let the scalp soak the oil in, so they sleep with the mask on. Wash your hair regularly. As for the face, use coconut oil instead of the creams you generally use. After you are done cleansing the face, apply a small amount of oil all over it and let it soak. Your skin will get smoother, the redness will fade, blemishes will decrease and you’ll smell amazing!
Hydrate like there’s no tomorrow
You’ve heard this one a million times before, but there’s no harm in staying on top of all the best advice; to keep your skin hydrated, drink at least 2 l of water per day. Mix your water intake with lemon water for an added bonus (weight loss!). However, don’t exaggerate with lemon water as lemon acid can give you heartburn. The best time to drink it is in the morning before breakfast, with warm water.
Exfoliate with honey and cinnamon
Make your own face and body scrub with organic honey and cinnamon; the process of making it is easy and the effect – amazing! For starters, use it on your face to see if it works on your skin (it should) and if it does – spread the joy on the whole body!
Face mask: Use two tablespoons of honey and one tablespoon of cinnamon to fashion the mask. Stir until pasty. Wash your face with mild water before applying the mask and dab it with a clean towel. Then, rub the mask gently on the face with circular moves. Be aware, though! The mask will be melting, so make sure you put something on your shoulders and chest. Leave the mask sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse. Dab water with a towel and apply coconut oil (obviously) afterwards. This mask is amazing, you’ll see – especially in spring! Word of caution: Don’t do this more than 2-3 times a week.
SPF, SPF, SPF
No, we’ll never get tired saying it – sunscreen is EVERYTHING for a glowing skin! With the winter weather damaging the skin (you are not the only one who hasn’t been using sunscreen in winter, no worries), spring is the perfect time to bring it its glow back. Find your SPF and apply the sunscreen whenever you leave the house. It doesn’t really matter what’s the weather like outside, keep your SPF close!
