The Deal with Denim this Spring

Spring is all about fresh, clean colours. Think spring clean – stripping it back to basics and working that minimalistic look to achieve maximum style. A good pair of jeans can help you step into Spring looking fashionably ready, particularly a rich denim blue and pure white combination for SS15.

So let’s get styling…

First up we have the LIZZIE Light Wash Zip Hem Jean by Miss Selfridge. With a straightforward combination of a white blouse and black accessories we have essentially created a ‘go to’ spring look. It is with the imitation leather feature on the bag and the suede and patent material of the pointed loafers that work as subtle qualities to enhance the outfit’s opulent appeal.

With skinny comes baggy and what’s more baggier than a pair of boyfriend jeans? The boyfriend fit can be a risky style to master as the last thing you want to do is make yourself appear short and frumpy. Petite girls suffer the most and with this in mind, Topshop’s PETITE MOTO Slim Lucas Boyfriend Jeans work great to help balance out proportions when you opt for this relaxed slouch look. A stylish way to tidy this ensemble is to roll the sleeves up or tuck the bottom flap of the shirt into the jeans to neaten the edges so to speak.

In the same family as boyfriend jeans, the mom jean is also a laid back denim look. It intertwines comfort with style and again is all about getting the proportions of your frame in order. In this instance, these Slim Fit Mom Jeans by Missguided can be worn with a short white crop top and a pair of comfy converse for a kicked back relax feel. Note that a belt will help nip in the waist giving the jeans some added shape.

If you read my last post on the Sleeveless Trench you’ll know that this style coat/jacket is becoming a Spring favourite. Worn with River Island’s Bright Mid-Blue Molly Jeggings your Spring calender will definitely be looking stylish!

Denim Gets an Upgrade!

Denim is something that undoubtedly has a place in pretty much everyones wardrobe. Throughout the years, it has remained a staple in the eyes of the fashion world and individuals alike due to it’s versatility and ease of wear. Anyone can wear it; whether it’s a denim jacket teamed with a cute Summer dress or a pair of skinny jeans and a simple tee, there’s something for everyone through the seasons.

Lately, we have been seeing denim in a whole new light on the catwalks and in stores – we’re seeing how this timeless textile is diversifying with fresh new ideas and imaginative looks. For Spring / Summer 2015, we’ll be seeing denim in many new forms: from tailored to military style cuts to opulent detailing such as shearling and crystals.

We’ve seen a lot of denim as of late from brands like Burberry, Gucci, Fendi and Tommy Hilfiger with models strutting down the catwalks in all sorts of ensembles featuring the fabric. We even saw a little bit of double denim – in fact, it was seen quite a lot on the runway.

Fashion editor for Vogue Francesca Burns shared some tips on wearing denim recently: “Don’t be afraid of layering! More is more when it comes to Spring / Summer denim.”

You too can upgrade your wardrobe with some updated denim pieces – think embellishment, different fits and detailing! Here are some of my favourite picks:

1. Bellfield Shearling Collar Jacket – £45.00
2. Hilfiger Denim Jumpsuit – £90.00
3. ASOS Panel Denim Jacket – £65.00
4. Ralph Lauren Denim and Supply Military Jacket – £92.00 (ON SALE)
5. Ralph Lauren Denim and Supply Patchwork Jean – £195.00
6. Ann-Sofie Denim Stud Skirt – £25.00 (ON SALE)
7. Vivienne Westwood Drape Denim Dress – £275.00
8. Wood Wood Rosemead Dress – £52.00 (ON SALE)

What are your thoughts on denim’s upgrade for S/S 15? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading.

Pastel Power

In my first blog post for Bonafide Supernova, I will be featuring two different companies that I have recently worked with and I have been fortunate enough to receive products from them, Fortune Clothing and Dawson D Rose. Fortune Clothing is a Vintage and Retro style e-store based in Peterborough, they offer beautifully unique Vintage and second-hand pieces of clothing for amazingly reasonable prices! I discovered Fortune Clothing when looking through Asos Marketplace when I came across the skirt that has actually been featured in this blog! Dawson D Rose is a company based in London, they create beautiful, one-off designs that are brilliantly tailored to be flattering and feminine, the great thing about this company is that when you’re wearing one of their pieces, you don’t have to worry about bumping in to someone who is wearing the same thing! Brilliant, right?

As you’ll see below, I am wearing a beautiful powder blue, vintage style blouse, this is my second item from Fortune Clothing and I am just as impressed with it as I am with my first! The beauty of this blouse is that because it’s over sized, you can wear it in many ways for example, you could wear it like I have by tucking it in to trousers for a more slimming look, you can wear it open with a little Camisole top underneath and a statement necklace to dress it up or you could also tie it at the front to create a chilled festival look which would be perfect for this summer! My jeans are from River Island and are very reasonably priced! Unfortunately my bag is out of stock at Zara but thankfully i managed to get my manicured claws on this beauty at eBay!

I also draped my pink Topshop coat around my shoulders to finish off this pastel coloured look.

I don’t want to blab on too much about this blouse and bore everyone to death! However, I do want to show you how beautiful the detail is on it! In the picture you below, you will see the beautiful detail of the embroidery, although it’s the same colour as the blouse, I feel it still stands out from it and adds a little extra detail as well as the beautiful buttons.

“Pastels are an essential for this Summer”

My second item to blog about today for my Pastel Power blog is this beautiful hand made collar pictured below from Dawson D Rose. I absolutely adore this collar, the floral pattern is just so beautiful and it’s a perfect fit! The shape is just gorgeous, and when I wear it, I feel so happy knowing that very few people will be wearing the same one which makes it ultra special and unique!

I also styled this outfit with my pink Topshop coat to add a little more colour to the all white look! This also shows how versatile this coat is as I also styled it with my first outfit of the Pastel Power blog which is shown above.

In this close up of the collar, you can really see the beautiful pattern and how well it was made, the quality of this hand made product is great and you wouldn’t feel worried about any bit’s of thread coming loose or anything getting damaged.

I styled both my blouse and collar with these gorgeous studded heels that I bought last year from h&m, I haven’t worn these many times but I do feel that it’s a lesson to keep clothing/shoes from year’s ago as you never know when you might wear them again or when they may come back in fashion, and I’m so pleased I did because I think they work so well with this outfit as they blend in with the pastel theme but also give a statement with the studs at the same time.

I also styled both of my items with these beautiful pastel coloured earring’s that I recently purchased from Forever 21, I love these because they’re so elegant and although there’s a lot to them, they’re not too over the top for any outfit! Recently I have discovered a new love for Forever21, when they first came out as the new fashion brand I wasn’t so sure as personally, I felt the clothing was a little on the cheap side but now, they have really upped their game and I can’t wait to go back and buy more from them!

Thank you so much for reading my Pastel Power blog and please visit my Photography, Makeup Art and Styling website that I will post underneath.
