Poolside Appeal

On 30/07/2014 by Bonafide Supernova

When you’re abroad and away, you have the best excuse to strip off into your sexiest gear and flaunt what you have.

Lounging by the pool while you are topping up your tan is the perfect place to look mega chic whilst still being comfortable in what you are wearing.

You can either go glamorous and gorgeous or fabulous and funky, whatever you are into, the key thing to remember this summer is to look good and be bold. Make sure your outfit creates a statement; after all, you do want to turn heads with your poolside outfit!

People often forget that black is still an influential colour, even in the summer. Although your summer wardrobe should typically be bright and colourful, key colours including black and white shout not be forgotten. If anything, they will be the easiest colours to pair other items up with.

Black and white create a statement on their own, so be sure to include them in your summer outfits. White pieces from shoes to accessories have really come into their own this SS14, no doubt the trend will carry on and white will play out as an influential colour during the coming seasons.

One of the key things to remember when styling your poolside outfit is accessories. Accessories, accessories, accessories! These little pieces from necklaces to earrings, bangles to bracelets and heels to handbags can really change the entire shape of your outfit.

It does not matter if you are into silver or gold, orange or purple… well you get the idea! Whatever it is, make sure your jewellery and accessories are bold enough to really bring your outfit to life. The same concept applies to your footwear and handbag, make sure they complement your swimsuit or bikini well, not blend in, but mix well enough to create a statement.

No matter what you prefer, be it a stunning two-piece or a beautiful one piece, you can look sexy and comfortable at the same time. Take a look at some of our favourite affordable poolside outfits that will keep you up to date with this year’s collection and without a doubt, keep you looking poolside chic!

Dancing jacquards & funky prints

On 09/07/2014 by Bonafide Supernova

Hey Supernova’s, this is a pretty late post as I’ve been super busy, but I wanted to share my LC:M experience with you.. better late than never hey!

I had the chance to swoon over some super gorgeous models, all in the name of fashion journalism of course, and I was also busy backstage courtesy of Toni & Guy, (thanks to the Toni & Guy team for having me, I’ve also written about my backstage experience, so scroll down and you will find it)

For the Huntergather SS15, #move was expressed through the soul-boy silhouettes, curly perms and plastic sandals.

The show started with breakfast, summer berries, pastries and hot drinks at the Huntergather Cafe. Also present at the Presentation was David Gandy (our fave male model), trying not to drool and running past him to stand and watch the presentation.

Dancing jacquards, funky prints, applique cut-out motifs jazzy like Matisse, beating to the swanky R&B rhythms and strut of local dance halls. The high waisted pleats, colourful beats, vibrancy and full of energy lightened up our mood that I for one wanted to #move.

The concept behind the brand was centered around a community of designers, writers, stylists and photographers bringing new creative ideas and fashion that makes you move.

“When David Bowie released ‘Young Americans’ he had been inspired by the sounds of local dance halls. You see, I knew those sounds, for I was a soul-boy too”, said David Bradshaw; founder and creative director of Huntergather.

Here’s a snapshot into what I wore during LC:M

Paul’s Boutique – The Summer Edit

On 24/06/2014 by Bonafide Supernova

Summer means bold, bright and rather outrageous, and with Paul’s Boutique handbags, your outfit will be just that!

With such a large selection of bags to pick from at Paul’s Boutique, I really was spoilt for choice when I was deciding which piece I wanted. The Tallulah Marina by Paul’s Boutique basically screams SS14 – it might as well be labelled the bag of SS14! With so many bold colours and eccentric designs and patterns, this bag was no doubt my favourite.

The beautiful mix of different shades of blue and green really stands out in this handbag, and the contrasting Paul’s Boutique badge really says HS14. With longer length shoulder straps and a tulip shaped structure, this bag is both practical and stylish – perfect for holding all of your summer essentials in. The gorgeous ocean-hued digital print clearly sets this bag apart from the others and it most definitely is a fashion-forward must have!

No matter where you are going or what you are doing, your handbag should always create a bold statement that compliments your outfit, or even stands out like crazy. This bag can effortlessly be transitioned from day to night by changing simple things such as your jewellery, footwear and outerwear. You can create the perfect outfit by accessorising your outfit with statement jewellery, footwear and most important – your handbag. Mix it up by throwing bright colours on solid block colours.

Paul’s Boutique is a brand with it’s own unmistakable identity which sells uniquely designed pieces that attract celebrities and key influencers such as Rita Ora, Delilah, Jamie Winston, Mary Charteris and has featured in coveted titles, including Style magazine and vogue.com.

Their latest HS14 collection includes a mix of chunky pastels and heavy colour block designs. As well as having separate pastel and bold pieces, they have also combined both pastels and brights to really create a killer statement with an elegant touch.

Incorporating darks into your summer outfit can really do wonders. Although darks are focused on as an A/W colour, you really cannot be faulted for wearing them! The Tallulah Marina perfectly contrasts brights and darks, which are sure to make any SS14 outfit stand out. Don’t be afraid to match up pastels with heavy, dark, base colours. If anything, your outfit is going to create more of a statement.

Afternoon Tea With Reiss

On 04/04/2014 by Bonafide Supernova

This week I was invited to afternoon tea with, the lovely ladies from Reiss and a few of my fellow fashion bloggers. The high tea took place at one of the capitals most luxurious venues; The Landmark Hotel. The settings were truly exquisite and instantly set the mood for the new SS14 collection which transports us to the Riviera and is inspired by the lavish lifestyle of glamorous coastal resorts during the late 50s and early 60s..

Upon arrival the venue immediately reminded me of the hotel that was used in Pretty Woman. The Landmark is so elegant and splendorous, with bellmen and valets dressed up in fancy uniforms, just like something straight out of the Beverley Hills movie.

I made my way up to the top floor and arrived at the Tower Suite, the private dining room which overlooked the palm-lined garden, was filled with such a sophisticated array of sandwiches, tea, coffee, cake, and wine, that even the Mad Hatter would be envious. The intimate affair meant I was able to sit down and conversate with the bloggers in attendance, including Sarah (Framboise Fashion), Marlene (Chocolate, Cookies and Candies) Sarah Hashcroft (That Pommie Girl) and Gillian Lee Rose (Styled Rose).

As a blogger, you get invited to a fair few collection previews, which can sometimes be overcrowded and in a bland, or if you are lucky.. very mediocre venue. You’ll probably be standing the whole time, with a phone in one hand, a drink in the other hand, a camera around your neck, and a handbag on your shoulder. You don’t really get to speak to people and you just tend to spend a lot of the time, slightly bored/uncomfortable looking through rails.

This event was nothing like that, there was a beautiful dining table to be sat at, and as we were waited on, by the ever-so polite hotel staff, girly chit chat filled the air. The atmosphere was super chilled, and between lusting over the collection and sophisticated tea-sipping we also had the chance to have our nails painted by Essie, with a colour palette that reflected the whole resort theme. Find Me An Oasis, was a popular colour amongst us all, think cool waters and glittering beaches, Resort Fling was equally a hit with it’s delicious coral hues.

I was totally crushing on the palm print bikini (coming soon) bound to add instant vocational glam to any upcoming getaways.

For the summer season Reiss draws reference from snippets of high society and its ‘café culture’ of travel, leisure and venture, forming an uber chic base for SS14. The collection is a contemporary yet glamorous interpretation of this sophisticated, care-free time and offers the essential pieces that every modern day woman will need in her wardrobe. Fresh, wearable and with a sense of luxury and timelessness, all pieces embody the graceful spirit of a high-class resort lifestyle.
